Police have arrested a second suspect in the slaying of a Florida man shot and killed outside a Vine City convenience store last August.

David McKinnon Jr. was taken into custody Monday on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police tied McKinnon to an Aug. 30 shooting outside a grocery store in the 600 block of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard in northwest Atlanta. Markeece V. Jenkins, a 28-year-old man from Orlando, Florida, was shot to death near Rodney Cook Sr. Park, according to investigators.

McKinnon was the second suspect arrested in the killing. Police apprehended a teenager in a stolen vehicle Jan. 12 and investigators later connected him to Jenkins’ homicide. The teen, whose name has not been released due to his age, was charged with aggravated assault and simple battery in the homicide case.

McKinnon spent months on the run after police identified him as a suspect. The police department released a surveillance photo of him in October, asking the public for leads on his whereabouts. He eventually became one of the department’s most wanted fugitives.

Investigators developed a lead Monday and took McKinnon into custody without incident in southeast Atlanta, according to a statement. He remained in custody at the Fulton County Jail late Wednesday.
