Tracking Debby: Follow the latest storm path

Tropical Storm Debby continues to dump rain on South Georgia and the East Coast.

The storm made landfall early Monday morning in Florida’s Big Bend area and made its way into Georgia later in the day. Gov. Brian Kemp issued a state of emergency through Thursday as the storm slows down over land, potentially leading to flooding.

Forecast path for Debby

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 11 a.m. Tuesday update, the storm was located inland roughly eight miles north of McRae–Helena, the small county seat of Telfair County, with sustained winds of about 40 mph. It is moving at about 6 mph and is expected to move off Georgia’s coast Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The storm is predicted to drift offshore through early Thursday and then move inland over South Carolina that day. Winds are expected to strengthen Wednesday and Thursday as the storm begins to move offshore. Tropical storm-force winds extend up to 205 miles east of the center of the storm.

The NHC released this update Tuesday at 5 a.m.
