A teenage suspect is accused of shooting a 15-year-old boy in the head outside Georgia’s largest shopping mall Saturday night, according to an arrest warrant obtained Monday.

At about 9:30 p.m., an officer working security at the Mall of Georgia heard gunfire shortly after closing and started running toward the sounds, according to Gwinnett County police. Soon after, officers found the victim, who was taken to the hospital.

Officers quickly apprehended a suspect who was trying to flee the scene, police said. Khaden Williams, 18, was booked into the county jail early Sunday on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Williams, from DeKalb County, is being held without bond, according to online records.

According to his arrest warrant, Williams is accused of shooting the victim in the head from close range. He fired three shots from a 9mm pistol, which caused “serious injuries,” the warrant stated.

“Detectives are in the process of canvassing the scene and trying to locate any witnesses who may have seen or heard the shooting,” Gwinnett police spokesperson Mark Meyers said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwinnett police. Tipsters can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.

The shooting remains under investigation.
