A raging apartment fire in Cobb County early Tuesday morning displaced more than 40 people but resulted in no injuries, according to officials.
Firefighters were called to the Premier Apartments on Premier Lane near Austell just after 1 a.m. for a working fire, Cobb Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Ramses Rivas said. At the scene, first responders found an “extensive” fire that was spreading.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control about an hour after the initial call, but 16 apartment units suffered either fire or water damage, Rivas said. In total, 43 people were displaced from their homes.
According to Red Cross spokesman Evan Peterson, 33 of those displaced people accepted assistance from the organization’s disaster action team. Volunteers were already assisting the fire victims early this morning, Peterson said, providing emotional support and immediate essentials like food, clothing and temporary lodging.
A few of the victims left the scene before Red Cross volunteers arrived, so the organization is expecting to open more cases as additional people accept assistance, Peterson said.
Photos from the scene show the fire consuming the entire second level of the apartment building. After the flames were extinguished, the entire roof was missing.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Peterson said the Red Cross will continue working with the displaced victims in the coming weeks to help them get back on their feet.
