Nearly 20 minutes elapsed Wednesday evening between a shooting in DeKalb County and the discovery of a shooting victim in a car on the side of I-75, police said.

The shooting in the 3600 block of Flat Shoals Road, which was reported just before 6 p.m., left multiple cars damaged and a woman with minor injuries, according to DeKalb police spokeswoman Officer Elise Wells. The shooting victim was not found until about 6:20 p.m., when he was spotted on I-75 near the Cleveland Avenue exit.

The man, who was not identified publicly, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Wells said. The woman found at the Flat Shoals scene, who is in her 30s, suffered scratches on her arm when gunshots broke her car window.

During the initial investigation, officers noted damage to at least three cars in the area. DeKalb police were notified by the Atlanta Police Department about 6:40 p.m. after the injured man was found in Atlanta’s jurisdiction, Wells said.

“Evidence indicated his vehicle was involved in the initial gunfire on Flat Shoals Road,” she said.

The police activity caused traffic delays Wednesday evening through Hapeville, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

No further information about the shooting has been released, including the description of a suspect.
