The driver of a limousine SUV was shot Friday morning when two other vehicles opened fire on the Downton Connector, police said.

The driver and a passenger ended up at Grady Memorial Hospital, where the passenger spoke with Atlanta police shortly after 5 a.m. He told officers they were driving on the interstate in the area of Edgewood Avenue when “two other vehicles began to exchange gunfire,” according to a police spokesman.

A half-dozen bullet holes could be seen in the side of the Chevrolet Suburban, which had limousine tags.

The SUV, a black Chevrolet Suburban with limousine tags, took what appeared to be a half-dozen large rounds to its passenger side. Its driver was injured but was stable at the hospital Friday morning, police said.

It was not known if the SUV was the intended target of the gunfire, and police have not identified any suspects.

An investigation is ongoing.

The passenger told police two other vehicles started shooting at the limousine SUV while they were traveling on the Downtown Connector near Edgewood Avenue.
