Woman who escaped police at Stockbridge hospital back in custody

A woman who managed to escape from police while at a hospital in Henry County on Tuesday is back in custody, according to authorities.
Quasha Harris, 38, had to leave a court appearance due to a medical emergency and was at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge when she asked to use the bathroom, Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett announced in a news release. Harris, who was in court facing shoplifting and failure to appear charges, then slipped away.
The sheriff’s office said Harris “manipulated her way out of custody.” She was apprehended Tuesday night after an “extensive” search that took Henry deputies into Atlanta.
Her mother also is being detained as a person of interest and potentially facing charges related to obstruction.
“This is a situation that should not have happened,” Scandrett said. “Ms. Harris came into court to face charges and quickly became a fugitive of the law and is now at risk of facing some real time (behind bars). I don’t know why people think they can get around the law and escape custody without being held accountable.”
Harris now faces a charge of escape and more are pending, the sheriff’s office said.
