More than two months after a fight at a North Georgia Applebee’s that left a teenager dead, a Dawson County man has been indicted on murder charges, among several others.
Daniel Lee Roberts, 20, of Dawsonville, was indicted Oct. 5 on two counts of felony murder and one count each of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and failure to comply, according to online court records. Roberts is accused of killing 19-year-old Kaleb Duckworth by punching the teenager in the face, causing the younger man to hit his head on the ground and sustain a brain injury.
The fight took place at an Applebee’s on Ga. 400 just before 10 p.m. on July 25, according to a warrant previously obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Duckworth was taken to the hospital with a serious cut on his face and other head trauma. After spending two days in the hospital, Duckworth died from his injuries.
Duckworth’s mother, Amanda Duckworth, wrote on Facebook that her son was an organ donor and that his organs would likely help save several lives.
Roberts was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery at the time, the warrant said. The two felony murder charges were added following Duckworth’s death.
Roberts has been held in the Dawson County Detention Center without bond since his arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 17.
