A man claiming to be a psychic healer was arrested after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars from a Gainesville couple, police announced Friday.

Jackson William Ramirez-Reyes was arrested on six counts of theft by deception in connection with the $70,000 he’s accused of stealing from the couple, police said. Authorities added that Ramirez-Reyes would threaten to harm others in an attempt to extort the money.

“Jackson claimed to be a psychic healer, that by deceitful means and artful practice, would make promises that he very well knew he could not uphold,” police said.

Authorities said they believe Ramirez-Reyes has victimized others in the area since he advertised his services on Hispanic radio stations. Alleged victims are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
