Two men have been charged with murder after Clayton County investigators tied them to a February homicide, police announced Wednesday.

Clayton police filed murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime charges against Tamon Calloway and Yusef Minor.

Both men are suspects in a Feb. 24 shooting at the Ashlar Townhomes in Jonesboro, police said. Officers responded to the apartment complex in the 300 block of Arrowhead Boulevard and found the victim dead on the back porch of a residence. Investigators said she was shot in the back.

The 33-year-old Morrow woman was identified in a police report as Ja’Leesa Shandell May-Carter.

According to the report, one of May-Carter’s friends told investigators she and the victim were at a Citgo gas station along Upper Riverdale Road around 2 a.m. and got into an argument with two men in a gold sedan. She said both of the men got out of the car and started shooting at the women as they ran away.

The woman told officers the suspects did a “mag dump,” according to the report, indicating they emptied their clips while firing the pistols. She said she kept running and lost May-Carter, but later returned and found the victim dead behind one of the buildings at Ashlar Townhomes.

Detectives identified Calloway and Minor as suspects in the homicide. It was not clear exactly how they linked the men to the fatal shooting.

🚨🚨Captured🚨🚨 On Thursday, 02.24.2022 at 3:30 p.m., Clayton County Police Officers responded to the 300 block of Arrowhead Blvd in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, Officers observed one female deceased on the back porch. The investigation revealed that by the victim was shot in the back. During the Investigation, Tamon Calloway and Yusef Minor were identified as the suspects. During Yusef Minor's arrest, a Glock pistol, multiple magazines for a .40 cal firearm, and a variety of .40 cal ammunition was found in Yusef's car. Tamon Calloway and Yusef Minor have been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime.

Minor, 28, of Stone Mountain, was booked into the Clayton County jail Wednesday morning, booking records show. He remained jailed with no bond Wednesday night.

Police said they found a Glock pistol, several .40 caliber magazines and a variety of ammo in Minor’s car when he was arrested. Investigators did not say if the gun or ammo were used in the homicide.

Calloway is not currently locked up in Clayton County, jail records show, and police did not specify that he’d been taken into custody. He faces the same charges for which Minor was arrested.
