A tense standoff with a man barricaded inside a Conyers motel room ended Tuesday evening in the man’s arrest.

Conyers police said they responded to the InTown Suites on Northlake Drive after getting reports of an armed man threatening to harm himself and his 23-year-old son, who has autism. Donovan Ingraham, 48, barricaded himself in the room with his son for hours, according to police.

The motel was evacuated during the standoff. Crisis negotiation and special response teams negotiated with Ingraham until nearly 9 p.m., when the man peacefully surrendered, police said. Mental health clinicians at the scene evaluated both Ingraham and his son.

Ingraham was arrested on one count of making terroristic threats and taken to the Rockdale County Jail, police said.

The standoff was the second incident in as many weeks to bring Conyers police to the InTown Suites location, which is off Ga. 138. On June 4, Dontavius Hardeman was found shot to death inside a black pickup truck parked outside the motel. It’s not clear if the 33-year-old was a guest.

Two teenagers have since been arrested in Hardeman’s death and are facing charges of murder, police confirmed.
