A Covington man was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of parole for a 2017 armed robbery, authorities said.

Jesse Andrew Allen, 20, pleaded guilty to robbing a man at gunpoint and stealing his wallet and cellphone in August 2017, the Newton County District Attorney's Office said in a Facebook post.

He was arrested the following month by Newton County deputies, according to jail records. He has been in jail for 509 days.

Allen will not be eligible for parole until after his 10 years in prison, the post said.
