A 20-year-old woman was shot in a car outside an Atlanta apartment complex just after midnight Sunday, police said.

A group of men opened fire on the car, which had several women inside, near Columbia Commons apartments on the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Atlanta.

Officer Lukasz Sajdak, a spokesman for Atlanta police, said the women were in a parking lot when the shooting began and the car sped away to get away from the suspects.

“During the shooting one female was shot in the back,” Sajdak said. “At this time, she is alert, conscious and breathing.”

One of the passengers, a 14-year-old girl, tried to drive to the hospital, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Emergency vehicles arrived to drive the 20-year-old to Grady Hospital, the station reported.

An investigation is ongoing and no suspects had been arrested by noon Sunday.
