A 3-year-old boy was taken to a hospital Monday night after his mother left him unattended in her car for about three hours, Hall County sheriff’s officials said.

The boy is in stable condition, sheriff’s spokesman Derreck Booth said in a statement.

The woman, who called 911 about 8 p.m., said she dropped off her two other children at their grandmother’s home, and the boy apparently fell asleep in the car, Booth said.

“She departed the grandmother’s home without realizing this,” Booth said, “and did not discover the child until some time after she had already been back home.”

After emergency crews responded, the boy was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville as a precaution.

The state Division of Family and Children Services was notified, and the case is being investigated.

No identities were released.
