Man charged after fatal shooting at Cobb home, high-speed chase

A man is facing several charges, including murder, after he allegedly shot and killed a woman in a Marietta home and led Cobb County police on a high-speed chase, officials said.

Juan Antonio Gonzalez, 32, was arrested following the chase, which happened after a domestic incident, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said.

Police were sent to a home in the 200 block of Spring Valley Road on a report of a domestic shooting, Delk said. Officers found the body of 38-year-old Oralia Melo Meza inside the home, Delk said. She had been shot to death.

Her 16-year-old son had also been shot in the shoulder and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gonzalez started to leave the driveway in his truck, police told Channel 2 Action News. When officers tried to stop him, he fired at them.

Delk said a round hit an officer’s patrol car.

Gonzalez then took off in his truck and led officers on a high-speed chase that lasted more than six miles. The man crashed into a car in front of a Chick-fil-A on South Cobb Drive.

Gonzalez was taken into custody. No one was injured in the wreck, police said.

Several witnesses, including a young child, were inside the house when the shooting happened, police told Channel 2.

“There were other witnesses inside the home, and at this point we will be speaking with them and trying to identify relationships and find out more about what happened,” Officer Sydney Melton said.

Police have not confirmed the relationship between the victims and Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he remains without bond. He is charged with felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a peace officer, felony fleeing and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
