Woman beaten, stabbed, robbed in Gwinnett home invasion

Gwinnett County police were trying to determine why a mother near Lawrenceville was targeted in a home invasion early Thursday during which she was stabbed with a knife and beaten with a hammer before being robbed.

The victim, Milagros Vasquez-Cid, said she had just returned home around 8:30 a.m. from dropping a child off at a school bus stop when she was met by a man insider her front door. The woman told police two other men were inside the home.

Vasquez-Cid, 40, said she was knocked unconscious with a hammer and when she came to her wrists and ankles were bound. The home invaders punched and stabbed her for the next hour as they ransacked the house, police said.

In Spanish, Vasquez-Cid told Channel 2 Action News the intruders threatened to sexually assault her and her 4-year-old child and they threatened to cut off her son’s ear if she did not give them money. She said she begged to men not to hur her son, and the child was unharmed, police said.

After the ordeal, the attackers stole $1,500 in cash and the victim’s white 2007 Nissan Quest SUV. Vasquez-Cid was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

Detectives called the home invasion a planned attack but they were trying to determine why the woman was targeted and they continued to search for the assailants.
