Sentencing will be handed down in August for a northwest Indiana woman after she pleaded guilty to giving birth on a cruise ship and leaving the baby girl to die under a bed.

Alicia Keir, 24, entered the plea to an involuntary manslaughter charge on Wednesday in federal court.

Court records show Keir gave birth in her stateroom in October 2011, wrapped the baby in a towel and hid the newborn under the bed, according to The Munster Times.

A cleaning crew found the dead baby the next day when the ship arrived at port in St. Maarten.

A doctor found that while the baby was born healthy, she died from exposure and lack of care.

"She did not move. She did not make a sound," Keir told the judge. She admitted in court that she should have sought help.

Keir said that she knew she was pregnant but she didn't inform her travel companions.

As part of her plea agreement, Keir faces up to eight years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
