A weekend traffic stop led authorities to more than two dozen people allegedly connected to a drug trafficking ring in North Georgia.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, along with the GBI, Habersham County and Stephens County sheriff's offices and the Toccoa Police Department, arrested 28 people accused of being part of the drug ring led by Donna Beard, 44, and Amber Null, 26, both of Toccoa, GBI officials said in a news release.

Authorities arrested Brandon Davidson, 33, of Cornelia, and Jody Higgins, 27, of Toccoa, during a traffic stop as the two were allegedly delivering methamphetamine to Beard and Null. Officials also seized guns, one pound of marijuana and $38,600 of cash.

During the eight-month investigation, the drug ring distributed “multiple kilograms of methamphetamine in North Georgia,” the GBI said.

Two others involved in the drug organization — Lisa “Butterfly” Smith, 35, of Toccoa, and Luke Norton, 28, of Alto — are still at large.
