Police are investigating a hair weave smash-and-grab robbery early Tuesday at a beauty supply store in east Atlanta.

Atlanta Police Capt. Tim Peek said bandits backed a pick-up truck through the front window of the Virgin & Remy Hair Extension store at 572 Edgewood Ave.

Police were called shortly after 3:30 a.m.

Officers arrived to find the glass windows and doors, as well as a metal gate, smashed.

“The only thing that appears to have been taken was hair,” Peek said.

Owner Denis McKinley said his store was targeted because “hair is big business.”

“The bad part is they didn’t even really take much,” McKinley said. “We’ll be closed for a while.”

He said he was glad the theft happened at night when his employees weren’t in harm’s way.

But he lamented that determined thieves couldn’t be stopped.

“If they want to get in there, you can have three big walls and they’ll find a way to get in,” McKinley said.

Investigators plan to review surveillance video from the store and nearby businesses in hopes of finding the perpetrators.
