Adults and children inside an East Point pediatrician's office ran for cover Wednesday afternoon when a bullet shattered a glass door, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Surveillance video from inside Dr. Cheryl J. Kendall’s office off Cleveland Avenue shows a bullet shatter the door just as a mother runs inside to save her son, who was right beside the door, Channel 2 reported.
“When I see my son by the door, I had to hurry up and get him,” the woman said.
The child’s father, Jerrod Smith, was also inside, and everyone is seen running for cover after the gunfire is heard.
“We heard multiple (gunshots),” he told the news station. “It sounded like somebody knocking on the door.”
East Point police told the news station an argument outside the building led to the gunfire, with one bullet ending up in a wall within the doctor’s office.
No one is in custody, and it’s unclear what the argument was about. Dr. Kendall told Channel 2 it’s a miracle no one was hurt in the incident.
“This glass is apparently bulletproof, which I did not know, but thank heavens it is because that’s what prevented the bullet from coming to the exam room where I was with a patient on the exam table,” she said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact East Point police at 404-559-6226.
