A babysitter in northwest Georgia was arrested after the 1-year-old child she was supposed to be watching was run over by a car, police said.

Jantay Shantell Collins, 24, left the child with her mother Thursday night while she went to Walmart in Rome, Northwestgeorgianews.com reported.

Collins’ mother was in the house, and the boy was outside jumping on a trampoline when the incident happened, police said.

The car, a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, pulled up to drop someone off, and the boy got off the trampoline and went to the car, according to a witness. The boy grabbed for a door when the car began moving and he was run over, the witness said.

Collins’ mother said she saw the boy go for the car. When she saw it pull away, she saw he was on the ground, police said. She picked him up and brought him inside, thinking he had fallen.

A neighbor called the boy’s mother, who came soon after and called 911.

The boy was treated and released from Floyd Medical Center on Friday, the news website reported.

Collins was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct, the website reported.
