Thieves went to Dunwoody home 3 times in 1 night to steal Lexus, police say

Investigators believe the same group of people in a Dodge Magnum visited a woman’s home three times early Tuesday morning before taking her Lexus SUV, according to Dunwoody police.

A Dunwoody woman was shocked to find her luxury SUV missing from her garage Tuesday, but even stranger was the revelation that the thieves returned not once, but twice during the night.

In all, investigators believe the same group of people in a Dodge Magnum visited the woman’s home three times early that morning, according to Dunwoody police. Their movements were captured by neighbors’ surveillance cameras in the Georgetown Square townhouse community off Old Spring House Lane.

The woman told police she noticed her Lexus SUV was gone when she woke up. She pulled the footage from her doorbell camera and saw a dark-colored Dodge parked outside her house about 3:50 a.m., according to a police report obtained by AJC.com.

She left the keys in her vehicle, but she told investigators the garage door was down when she went to bed. Footage from two neighbors’ cameras helped to piece together what happened.

In one video, two men were seen walking down the street about 10 minutes before the theft, pulling on door handles, police said in the report. One of the men opened the unlocked door to the victim’s other vehicle, a Honda Accord, and a garage door opener was taken.

The Dodge was then seen on the video peeling out of the neighborhood.

According to the report, it returned again a few minutes later, pulled in front of the woman’s house and three men were seen going into the garage. Eventually, police said they left the neighborhood again.

The Lexus was not taken until the third trip to the woman’s house, police said in the report.

Her purse and credit card were also stolen. The card was charged at 4:35 a.m. at a gas station in East Point, according to the report.

The incident remains under investigation. The Lexus has not been recovered, and no suspects have been identified, police spokesman Sgt. Robert Parsons said Friday.

The vehicle is a black Lexus GX460 with Georgia tag CFA8722.
