In one of the largest drug busts in recent Georgia history, more than 840 pounds of cocaine — with an estimated street value of $38 million — was seized over the weekend in Telfair County.
A Marietta man and three other suspects were arrested in connection with the find.
Telfair County Sheriff's deputies found the drugs after searching a produce truck Saturday afternoon that turned out to contain more than tomatoes, according to a report in the Macon Telegraph.
Half of the drugs were on the truck, and the rest was found buried in large, plastic containers in the woods near Lumber City, according to Sheriff Johnny Smith. Lumber City is 178 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Authorities have charged four people with trafficking in cocaine: David Rivera-Uriostegui, 31, of Marietta; his brother Bertin Rivera-Uriostegui, 42, of Lumber City; Silvina Sanchez Santa Maria, 41, of Lumber City, and Natividad Salazar III, 21, of McRae.
