A teen shot and mortally wounded in unincorporated DeKalb County was identified Wednesday as 16-year-old Frederick English, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The incident happened about 8 p.m. Tuesday on a residential street near Lithonia, police said. English and some others were walking when someone in a black vehicle pulled up and started shooting.

The youth was shot and staggered one street over to a cul-de-sac on Ravenway Court, where a neighbor tried to help him.

“He was fighting for his life. We tried to help him,” the neighbor, Jeffrey Mabry, told Channel 2.

“We tried to get 911 on the phone,” said Mabry, a barber. “We couldn’t get them, so we put him on the back of my truck and took him to the hospital. By the time we got to the hospital, he was dead.”
