A teenager is in jail on murder and aggravated assault charges after police said he shot and killed a man in Clayton County.

Jamauri Jones, 18, was arrested at his College Park home after detectives uncovered enough evidence to determine that “he was responsible” for the death of Errol Meekins, Clayton police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said Thursday.

Weeks before the deadly shooting, Jones was accused of stealing Meekins’ wallet, allegations that led to a physical altercation between the men, Marbury said.

Investigators suspect Jones went to the 500 block of Roxbury Drive on Wednesday and fired a series of shots at Meekins in an act of retaliation.

Meekins, 28, of Jonesboro, was hit once. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
