A police chase through Pike County on Thursday night ended with the arrests of two Lithonia teenagers tied to a DeKalb County carjacking, authorities said.
Deputies noticed a stolen Nissan Rogue and tried to stop it about 8 p.m. in Zebulon, authorities said. That’s when the driver took off, leading police on a chase on U.S. 19.
The chase ended when the SUV turned onto Ga. 109 and got stuck in the mud in front of a church, authorities said. At that point, five suspects got out of the vehicle and ran from police in different directions.
One of the men, 18-year-old Angelo Barnett of Lithonia, was found hiding inside a nearby Dollar General store, authorities said. When deputies searched him, they said they found a handgun and a key fob to the stolen vehicle.
Outside the store, deputies arrested 17-year-old Keith Stewart. Both were charged with theft by receiving a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and traffic violations. Authorities said the vehicle was stolen at gunpoint Feb. 13, but additional details about the carjacking have not been released.
The remaining three people who ran from police have not been located.
