A woman’s body was found in the 200 block of Mt. Tabor Road in Covington after authorities got a “suspicious call” Saturday about the discovery, Newton County officials said.

It’s not clear what led to 27-year-old Kelly Marshall’s death, but investigators were called to the scene, the Newton sheriff’s office said. Authorities did not say how the Oxford woman’s body was found.

Two kayakers found the body under a bridge near the Yellow River, Channel 2 Action News reported. The area is a popular hangout spot for Marshall’s boyfriend, who was with her late Friday night, the station said.

The boyfriend has not been named as a suspect or a person of interest, but according to Channel 2 he was booked into the Walton County jail after a police chase this weekend.

Marshall’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
