1 suspect arrested, another found dead after Fayetteville robbery

3rd suspect remains at large

A phone call from a concerned relative gave police the break needed in the investigation of the armed robbery of a Fayetteville restaurant on Friday night.

One suspect was arrested Monday, another was found dead, and a third remains at large, Fayetteville police said.

Two armed men entered the China Café at 913 Glynn Street North and held three restaurant employees at gunpoint, authorities said. An employee shot one of the suspects in the face, then another suspect returned fire and struck an employee in the abdomen. The suspects left with an employee’s cellphone but no cash. They fled to a vehicle, possibly a black four-door sedan, officials said.

Police asked local hospitals to be on the lookout for the wounded robbery suspect.

A worried relative of the now deceased suspect who believed he may have been involved in the case contacted police and provided information, Lt. Mike Whitlow said.

Alvin James Scott, 26, of Jonesboro was arrested Monday morning at his Jonesboro home by Fayetteville police. Authorities then received information that led them to the body of Alonzo Starks, 25, of Morrow, in an abandoned home. Another suspect, 27-year-old Leandro Bernard Johnson. of Ellenwood, is still on the loose.

The wounded restaurant worker remains in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, Whitlow said.

Fayetteville police continue to work with Morrow and Clayton County authorities on the case.
