Suspect arrested in U.K. after bomb threats against Atlanta flights
The FBI and authorities in the United Kingdom have arrested the person whose alleged Twitter threats prompted the military to scramble fighter jets to escort planes to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in 2015, officials said.
The arrest was made April 13, FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett said Thursday in a brief statement. Details about the suspect and the charges were not released.
“As the arrest occurred overseas and charges were filed in the U.K.,” Emmett said, “there will be no further comment.”
The January 2015 threats resulted in the deployment of significant resources, including the military jets and searches by a police bomb squad and the FBI.
Those searches turned up nothing threatening. However, passengers on both flights — Delta 1156 from Portland, Ore., and Southwest 2492 from Milwaukee, Wisc. — were shaken.
