A Snellville man was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, after a dog was found with its mouth taped shut at a home in Gwinnett County.

A neighbor called police after seeing a black pit bull with electrical tape around its mouth, according to Channel 2 Action News. When officers arrived, they said the pit bull, whose name is Bullet, was "very skinny and emaciated." Police said the dog's mouth was bleeding, swollen and the end of its tongue was sticking out.

Neighbor Linda Jefferson told Channel 2 that she couldn't believe what she saw.

"It touched my heart because I couldn't stand to see a dog be abused," she said.

The dog was transported to Eastside Animal Medical Center for treatment. According to Channel 2, the neighbor who originally called police said the dog lived in the 3000 block of Parkside Court and belonged to Antonio Furlow.

Bullet will reportedly have a lengthy recovery. A woman who answered the phone at the animal hospital declined to release any information or confirm whether he was there.

The case remains under investigation.

Furlow is in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond, according to online jail records.
