An Acworth man was arrested on child cruelty charges last week after police found him napping in a car with methamphetamine, heroin and his child inside, authorities said.

Casey Brookshire, 37, was taken into custody in the parking lot of a motel early Aug. 23 after someone called Acworth police to report he’d been there for two hours with a 3-year-old in the backseat.

Police arrived at the Hometowne Lodge near I-75 about 1:30 a.m. and discovered the drugs, the child and a meth pipe in Brookshire’s car, according to his warrant.

He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of a drug-related object and third-degree cruelty to children after reportedly admitting using meth while looking after his child.

Brookshire was released two days later after posting an $11,220 bond, Cobb County jail records show.

Court records show Brookshire was arrested for meth possession twice in Cobb last year, once in July and again in November.
