A man is headed to prison for 27 years after pleading guilty to a robbery attempt in which he was shot in the buttocks, Douglas County’s top prosecutor said.

Demarcus Stovall was 20 years old Dec. 14, 2016, when he entered the Top Nails Salon, District Attorney Brian Fortner said in a news release.

Flashing a gun, Stovall demanded money from employees and customers, officials said.

The owner pulled his own gun and demanded that Stovall leave, but Stovall responded by shooting at the owner. Returning fire, the owner shot Stovall in the buttocks, officials said.

Stovall tried to run but was caught while trying to hide in bushes near the salon.

He pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of armed robbery, five counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Fortner said.

After he is out of prison, Stovall will be on probation for 13 years.
