A woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly attempting to carry a concealed firearm into a courthouse in Gwinnett County.

Shashirekha Shetty was charged with carrying a weapon in unauthorized locations for trying to bring a gun into the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, according to a post on the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page. Deputies detained Shetty as she allegedly attempted to enter the building through the employee entrance and subsequently found the loaded weapon in her purse.

Shetty quickly invoked her right to speak with an attorney, and the nature of her visit to the courthouse was unknown, the sheriff’s office said. She does not work at the courthouse and did not have a permit to carry a gun, according to authorities.

Shetty was taken to the Gwinnett County jail on the misdemeanor charge and released Tuesday evening, according to online records.
