Security guard hit, killed by car while crossing street in Milton

Oct 27, 2018

A Milton security guard was hit and killed by a car while he was crossing the street outside of the neighborhood he protects.

Thomas Joe, 69, was found dead in the middle of New Providence Road in front of Atlanta National Golf Club by Milton police on Oct. 8, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Police Capt. Charles Barstow told Channel 2 the driver stopped at the scene, but charges are possible depending on the results of toxicology reports.

“We also have to wait for toxicology reports and anything else that might be related to the investigation before we move forward,” Barstow said.

Joe was working his normal third shift in the guard shack outside the neighborhood when he saw a car pull into the gate across the street, the news station reported. He then went over to help them get in, and police said he was hit while walking back across the street.

Joe’s employer hasn’t responded to Channel 2’s request for comment.

An investigation is ongoing.
