A search for two men in ski masks at a northwest Atlanta apartment complex came up short after an early Tuesday morning home invasion, police said.
The men forced their way into an apartment at the Fairburn Gordon complex in the 200 block of Fairburn Road, Atlanta police spokesman Jarius Daugherty told AJC.com. Officers were called just before 3 a.m. when the intruders left the apartment and the victim got to a phone.
When officers arrived, they saw two men wearing dark colors run from the complex toward Hemphill School Road, setting off a search that lasted several hours.
“Officers pursued the subjects on foot but ultimately lost sight of them and were unable to locate anyone matching (their) description,” Daughtery said in a statement.
The victim told police he was expecting company when he answered a knock at his door. Instead, he came face-to-face with the masked men.
One of them was holding a black handgun, he told police.
“The suspects forced the victim to the ground and struck him in the stomach while doing so,” Daugherty said. “The victim stated that while he was face down on the floor, the suspects were in his apartment for a short period of time.”
While officers couldn’t find the two men, they did recover many of the items stolen from the man’s apartment, Daugherty said.
