A local animal rescue group is offering a cash reward for information after a dog was shot in the face, leaving it badly wounded and blind in one eye.
The Chow Chow was discovered in Fairburn on Monday afternoon after wandering into a man’s garage bleeding, said Tracey Sparagis, president of the Chow Chow Rescue Society.
The dog was not neutered or microchipped. A $1,000 reward has been offered for information in the case.
The dog, named Clay by volunteers, was taken to Fulton County Animal Services and then to the Spring Lake Animal Hospital in Conyers. He had visible injuries to his face that veterinarians first thought may have been sustained during a fight, but an X-ray revealed the dog was struck with what appeared to be birdshot, Sparagis said.

Clay was taken to a veterinary hospital at the University of Georgia, where he may have to undergo surgery to remove the damaged eye.
“We’ve got a lot of people out there that really want justice for this dog, us included,” Sparagis told AJC.com on Wednesday. “We’re going to hang with this dog. Money is not an issue. We’re gonna make sure he gets the best care that he needs.”
Anyone with information about who the dog belonged to or who shot him is asked to call the rescue society at 207-992-8726. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
