The father of a star linebacker who is committed to Alabama was arrested Friday.
Danny Foster, father of former Troup County football recruit Reuben Foster, was arrested by Ft. Lauderdale deputies in Plantation, Fla., according to CBS Miami.
Foster had been on the run since escaping from an Alabama jail facility in 1996. He was serving 30 years for shooting his wife and 18-month-old son.
The U.S. Marshals Service Office in Montgomery, Ala., learned of new information as to the whereabouts of Foster this week and passed the information on to deputies.
Foster had been living under the name Jefferson McClendon in a Dania Beach trailer park, the report said. Marshals said it was not clear if he had any contact with his son during his time on the run.
Reuben Foster committed to play football at Alabama for a second time Monday. Reuben made national headlines for getting an Auburn tattoo one day after flipping from Alabama to Auburn. President Barack Obama joked about the tattoo during a call with Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome after Baltimore won the Super Bowl.
Danny Foster will be extradited to Alabama to serve out the rest of his prison sentence.
