The mother of the 5-year-old girl who died after suffering from several severe injuries last year may soon face the death penalty.
The Telegraph reports that prosecutors will seek the death penalty for Amanda Hendrickson, 33, who is being charged with murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and cruelty to children for the death of her daughter Heaven Woods last May. Hendrickson's boyfriend Robert Buckner, 35, pleaded guilty to the same charges during a hearing Wednesday, for which he will serve life in prison without parole and testify against Henrickson in the trial, according to 11 Alive.
Police responded to a 911 call May 20, 2014, about an unresponsive child at Buckner’s Forsyth home, where Hendrickson and her child had been living since earlier that month. Woods, 5, died shortly after authorities took her to the emergency room at Monroe County Hospital.
An autopsy later revealed Woods died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen — one of several injuries that were visible on the child's body.
