DeKalb County officials are seeking a 17-year-old boy who they say fired 31 shots in a weekend incident that left a 6-year-old boy in critical condition.

“We’re coming for (Meshon) Williams immediately,” Public Safety Director Joseph Lumpkin said Monday. “We want to bring him to justice.”

Police said Williams was one of seven people who went to a house in the 3500 block of Sweetgum Lane on Saturday afternoon.

An altercation between the shooter and the residents of the home over a social media post escalated, and Williams’ group left the home, police Capt. A.T. Mears said.

While driving away, Williams stopped, got out of the car and fired at the house, Mears said. The boy, identified as Z’Mari Mitchell, was hit, and is now at a local hospital.

Williams is wanted on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery, according to police.

“Six years old,” Mears said, “is something no one wants to see.”
