Police identified a suspect believed to be involved in an overnight gun battle outside a downtown Atlanta restaurant that left four people injured and the eatery littered with bullets.
Atlanta police arrested Brent Morrie in connection with the Wednesday night shooting, Officer Kim Jones said Thursday.
Morrie was wounded in the incident and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with three other people injured in the shooting.
Investigators believe the gunfire started as an argument inside a JR Crickets at 57 Forsyth St., and the confrontation spilled over outside the restaurant, Jones said.
Adam Schumaker, a resident in the area, told Channel 2 Action News the incident sounded like it involved two rapid bursts of automatic gunfire. Then he saw people start to run, he said.
Investigators were called to the scene about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jones said.
Three weapons — at least one of which was a gun — were found nearby Thursday.
Atlanta police Sgt. Warren Pickard said officers didn’t find the weapons initially but later learned the crime scene was larger than they first suspected.
“Initially a gun was obstructed from view by a vehicle being parked over the gun. Once the vehicle left the scene, the gun was discovered,” Pickard said. “It was a dark-colored gun. The crime scene was initially processed at night, so those type of things do happen.
“But we have the skill set and capable investigators that can come back out and reprocess crime scenes, and that’s what we’re doing now.”
Police took custody of Morrie’s vehicle and also captured video of their encounter with Morrie.
Workers used plywood to cover up shattered windows at JR Crickets and a Downtown Eyecare on Forsyth.
