Forsyth County investigators believe two men attempted to break into a home early Saturday. But before the two could leave, one man died and his accomplice left him behind, police said Monday.

The cause of death for Joseph Pollard, 42, of Gainesville, was not immediately known. Pollard’s alleged accomplice, Jeffery Chester, 51, of Cumming, didn’t stick around to find out, according to police.

When Pollard died, Chester left the Browns Bridge Road home about 7 a.m. Saturday, Forsyth sheriff’s Deputy Epi Rodriguez said. Investigators were called to the home when Pollard’s body was found, Rodriguez said.

While deputies were at the home, Chester returned to the scene, where he was arrested and charged with burglary, Rodriguez said. No details were released on how investigators linked Chester to the alleged burglary. He was later released after posting $16,610 bond, Rodriguez said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine Pollard’s cause of death. Foul play is not suspected, police said.
