Authorities continue to search for a woman who they say fled after shoplifting Monday night at a Pennsylvania mall .
According to police, a man and woman were seen on surveillance video at Westmoreland Mall stealing more than $3,000 worth of designer purses and stuffing them into bags at the Macy’s store.
Investigators said that when Macy’s loss prevention employees approached the pair, the man, Kevin McKissick, pepper-sprayed one employee and bit the other as the unidentified woman ran out of the mall. McKissick was apprehended at the store, but the woman got away.
Michael Conroy, 18, told WPXI Thursday that he was leaving Macy’s Monday night to head to an emergency medical technician class when he encountered a woman wandering around the parking lot.
"She comes running up and tries to grab my passenger door, so I, like, stepped between her and said, ‘Can I help you?’” he said.
Conroy said he learned later that the woman was the second person involved in the shoplifting incident.
"She was like, ‘You got to help me. My boyfriend is trying to rape me.’ I said, ‘Well, do you want me to call the police?’ And she said, ‘No, you can't. He'll go to jail. He has drugs on him,’” the 18-year-old said.
Conroy said he hopes police catch up with her before what happened to him happens to someone else.
"She just kind of seemed scared, like she was trying to get away as fast as she could. I didn't feel threatened by her,” he said.
Anyone who recognizes the woman or has any information about the shoplifting incident is asked to contact state police in Greensburg.
