Atlanta police are looking for a man accused of sucker punching a Grady High School student in Midtown.

Originally, police identified Curtis Bethea, the man nicknamed the 'Midtown Puncher' after a series of punching attacks in January, as the suspect in the Nov. 12 attack against student Conor Downey.

Later Friday, police said that was not the case and released surveillance images of the actual suspect.

“Curtis Bethea was already in jail on other charges when this incident occurred so he is not the suspect that we are looking for in this incident,” police spokeswoman Kim Jones said in a brief statement.

According to a police incident report, Downey was in the area of Crescent Avenue and Peachtree Place about 11:15 a.m. Nov. 12 when, according to a police incident report, a man punched the teen from behind.

"I went down," Downey told Channel 2 Action News. "My head slammed into the ground."

A witness called police, who found Downey bleeding from his right ear and with several visible injuries on his face and arms.

Downey said he suffered brief vision and hearing loss, his ear was ripped on two sides and he had to get 27 stitches.

Anyone with information about the suspect in the Nov. 12 attack is asked to call Atlanta police Investigator B. King III at 404-658-7057.
