One of two men was arrested hours after an attempted carjacking led to the death of a man at a gas station Thursday in Fulton County, police said.
A 44-year-old man was shot at a gas station pump at the Chevron at 3535 Roosevelt Highway about 1:30 p.m., Fulton County police spokeswoman Cpl. Maureen Smith said.
Two men pulled up in a newer model, black Toyota Camry, Smith said.
One of the two men approached Kenny Oglesby, who was pumping gas, and tried to take his car.
When Oglesby refused to give up his car, of of the two men who arrived in the Camry shot him, Smith said. Oglesby ran inside the store, where he collapsed and died.
Oglesby was a Georgia resident.
“His birthday was coming up,” Smith said.
The suspects drove off in the same sedan they arrived in because they weren’t able to steal the man’s car.
“The perpetrator tried to get back in the car, but couldn’t start it,” Smith said.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., a Fulton County police officer recognized the black Camry and chased it until the car crashed. Police pulled the driver from the car and handcuffed him, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Detectives were searching the crashed car for evidence.
The whereabouts of the second suspect were unknown.
