An off-duty Atlanta police officer is accused of assaulting a 65-year-old man after returning drunk from a country music concert, Alpharetta police said Wednesday.
Scott A. Perry, 43, of Gainesville returned Saturday evening to the Hyatt Place hotel on North Point Parkway, where he approached people sitting at the bar, the police report states. Perry allegedly made inappropriate comments and tried to kiss a woman, then attempted to take her 65-year-old boyfriend’s food, police said.
Perry also grabbed the man, identified as Genesco Carvalhais, and tried to kiss him. Carvalhais attempted to push Perry away, but Perry grabbed the man’s necklace and watch, according to police. Carvalhais ripped his shirt while trying to push Perry away, witnesses told police.
Alpharetta officers were called to the hotel and located Perry in a room, but Perry said nothing happened in the hotel lobby, the police report states.
“[Expletive] you. I’m a police officer,” Perry allegedly told the officers. “[Expletive]. I’ll have all your jobs!”
When Perry reached for his clothes, officers blocked him to prevent him from reaching his service weapon, according to police. He shouted expletives and was combative with officers, who then deployed a Taser on Perry, police said.
“Scott began to calm down after he was in handcuffs, but he kept asking why he was Tased,” the police report states.
Scott was arrested and charged with simple battery. He is on administrative leave with pay, a department spokeswoman said Wednesday.
“The Atlanta Police Department takes these allegations very seriously,” APD said in an emailed statement. “Chief Turner has always prioritized officer accountability and professional behavior at all times. He will continue to take decisive action when necessary to hold his employees to the highest standard.”
Scott is an 11-year veteran of the department and a member of the fugitive unit. Atlanta police declined to release Scott’s picture because he works undercover.
