Police in Minnesota say a home day care worker attempted to hang a child who had been left in her care, and then struck two people with her car as she tried to flee the scene.

The incident happened Friday morning, according to the Minneapolis Police report. Nataliia Mykhaylivna Karia, 42, is accused of hanging a 16-month-old boy who was left in her care. A parent who was dropping off a child at the home day care removed the victim from the home and called authorities, at which point Karia fled.

Minneapolis Assistant Police Chief Kris Arneson told KSTP that the child was taken to the hospital and is "doing fine."

The first hit-and-run incident was reported shortly after Karia fled. Police believe she struck a man who was standing by his car and dragged him a significant distance. Police said the man had several broken bones, but is expected to survive. A few minutes later, police responded to a second hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist. The male victim suffered a broken leg.

Minutes later, police responded to a call about a woman attempting to jump off a bridge. Citizens prevented Karia from jumping until authorities arrived. She was taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.
