Three people were arrested after fleeing a traffic stop, committing a hit-and-run during a police chase and slamming into a utility pole in DeKalb County, authorities said.

The incident began just after 5:15 p.m. Tuesday when officers were patrolling near the Stone Mountain Inn off Mountain Industrial Boulevard in an undercover patrol car, according to a police incident report obtained by AJC.com. One of the motel rooms was suspected of containing drug activity.

Quevo Wimbish, 17, of Scottdale, and Deron Evans, 20, of Atlanta, exited the motel room officers were watching and got into a red Hyundai Sonata. Officers recognized Evans as a “Drugrixh gang member,” who goes by the nickname “Baby Plug,” the report said.

He’s also the brother of Joe Paul Atwater, who is wanted on felony murder and aggravated assault charges in Rome, the report said.

When the car left the parking lot and darted onto Forge Street, the officers followed. After the car didn’t come to a full stop at a stop sign, the officers tried to pull it over, the report said. A marked police car had joined in at this point.

The officers noticed there were three people in the car — the third being Desiree Lashay Doublette, 20, of Douglasville. The driver, Wimbish, was seen staring at an officer in the rear-view mirror while grabbing at his waist, potentially “attempting to pull out or hide a weapon,” the report said.

As an officer got out of the marked patrol car, the Sonata sped off, hitting another vehicle on Mountain Industrial Boulevard before driving away, the report said. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was not seriously injured, but his car suffered moderate damage.

The chase ended when the Sonata hit two vehicles on Lawrenceville Highway before crashing into a utility pole near Brockett Road, the report said. Channel 2 chopper footage showed the aftermath.

A pistol was found inside Wimbish’s pants, and ecstasy pills were found inside Doublette’s bookbag, the report said. Evans was also identified as an aggravated assault suspect, accused of shooting at a man’s car twice Aug. 17 near Rowland Road.

All three were arrested and booked into the DeKalb jail, police said. Doublette was charged with possession of ecstasy, while Wimbish faces several charges, including attempting to elude police, hit-and-run and possession of a pistol by someone under 18.

Evans faces aggravated assault and battery charges in connection with the Aug. 17 incident. He’s also charged with aggravated stalking from an incident July 10, jail records show.
