Memphis police arrested 27 people for drag racing and other charges Saturday.
MPD told WHBQ officers responded complaints of street drag racing involving motorcycles, cars, and 4-wheelers in Memphis, Tennessee.
An officer sitting in an unmarked car in a parking lot saw a large group of vehicles pull up and stop on the side of the road across from the lot.
Police said there were several pick-up trucks with trailers hauling motorcycles and off-road vehicles. MPD said there were also several high-performance street racing vehicles.
MPD said an orange cone was placed in the middle of the street to mark a quarter of a mile from a starting line and numerous vehicles and people blocked the street to watch the races.
Officers said they responded after several motorcycles began racing at a high rate of speed, and they created a block to stop people from fleeing.
Numerous cars, trucks, trailers and motorcycles were towed to the city lot.
Police said they found $12,700 inside one of the vehicles that were towed. Officers said they also recovered a stolen motorcycle.
One person was also charged with marijuana possession.
