Gwinnett County police said they believe alcohol was a factor in a nearly head-on collision that led to one death and left a 1-year-old in serious condition Thursday in Lawrenceville.
A 29-year-old passenger in one of the cars died, Gwinnett County Police Department Corporal Deon Washington said in a news release.
The crash involved a 2011 Toyota Camry, carrying the 29-year-old and 1-year old Cameran Lowe and a 2002 Honda Accord, carrying passenger Jessica Terracina, 20., Washington said.
The Camry, driven by 26-year-old Shana Fischer-Williams, was traveling south on McKendree Church Road; and the Accord, driven by 26-year-old Michael Schick, was reportedly traveling northbound.
Washington claimed the Accord skidded into the roadway, failing to drive in a single lane. Then, the car crossed into the southbound lane, striking the Camry almost head on, Washington alleged.
The surviving passengers and drivers were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive.
The victim has not yet been identified.
