A quickly-moving fire destroyed a home in Tyrone where 11 people lived Monday morning, according to Channel 2 Action News.
A toddler and grandfather were among four people at home when the fire started around 9:30 a.m. Monday along Senoia Road, Channel 2 reported.
“This house was fully involved from one end to the other on our arrival,” Fayette County Fire Chief David Scarbrough told Channel 2. “I was concerned because the early reports told us the grandfather was trapped in the basement.”
Everyone made it out safely.
Investigators believed the fire started on the back porch, where a heat lamp was being used to warm a dog house.
The nearest hydrant was nearly 800 yards away, so crews had to lay out 2,300 feet of hose to get to the home, surrounded by woods, according to Channel 2.
Firefighters kept the flames contained to the property, but the family lost everything, Scarbrough said. The home was insured, and the American Red Cross plans to help the family, Channel 2 reported.
